Plant breeding and innovation in agriculture

Abstract
Plant breeding is one of the main tools for innovation in agriculture, through the introduction of new varieties new types of products have been developed and yield and sustainability of the agricultural system have been increased. The new biotechnologies namely genome editing which allows to induce a mutations in a specific point of the genome, and cisgenesis which allows transferring a gene between plants same species without modifying the structure of the genome of the recipient variety, open new opportunities useful for reaching the objectives indicated in the European Green Deal.
