Natural products and enzymes from marine microalgae
Abstract
Microalgae have been often considered as eco-friendly and sustainable source of new products. We have used different approaches (e.g. Bioactivity-guided fractionation and -omics technologies) to identify active compounds, e.g. with anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. We are currently investigating their mechanism of action, and analyzing the transcriptomes of the bioactive marine microalgae to identify enzymes of interest involved in the synthesis of active compounds or with possible direct applications. Taken together, the results show promising data for discovery and characterization of microalgal products.
