Digital Twin for aquaponics: sustainability and optimization of production processes
Abstract
The production of fish and vegetables in recirculation aquaponic systems allows one to save a large amount of water, which is very relevant for the adaptation to Climate Changes, and to recover nitrogen and phosphorus emissions, which would be otherwise lost. The management of aquaponic systems, however, is rather complex: to pave the way for their adoption within the programme area, the BeBlue project, https://www.ita-slo.eu/it/beblue, will develop a prototype of “Digital Twin”, for simulating in real time their functioning. The prototype will be validated using the data collected in two pilot plants producing: 1) seabream, seaweeds and glasswort; 2) trout and microgreens.
