Abstract
The agri-food system is one of the main contributors in terms of impact on climate change, consumption of non-regenerable natural resources, loss of biodiversity and in all of this the predominant weight is due to primary agricultural production. The road to sustainable nutrition and agriculture passes through the use of the most advanced technologies in the genetic field to reduce the environmental footprint of food production. But in order for the advancement of knowledge in the scientific field to be translated into innovations, not only are high-quality research and a technology transfer system also necessary but also a body of legislation that allows innovations to reach the market promptly without unnecessary constraints and/or restrictions and consumer acceptance of the innovations proposed by the production system.
