Evalutation of Hermetia and Tenebrio Frass for soilless cultivation of horticultural plants
Abstract
The term “insect frass” identifies a waste product derived from the farming of insects, aimed at the production of transformed proteins for animal and human consumption. It consists of excreta, deceased larvae, and food substrate. These residues, rich in plant nutrients, can be utilized as fertilizers, replacing mineral fertilizers, within the framework of a circular economy and the sustainability of agricultural processes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of frass as an organic fertilizer in the production of Brassicaceae and Solanaceae in an indoor environment through soilless cultivation systems.
