Development of Smart Containers for microgreens production
The agrifood sector tends to adopt and promote sustainable patterns of production and consumption, in order to cope with the increasing needs of the growing world population and the necessity to increase sustainability. The primary objective of agriculture is to ensure adequate quantities of food, to satisfy nutritional exigencies and to fight nutritional deficiencies, with the effort to minimize negative impacts of production processes on the environment.
The presentation will be focused on the main results concerning new types of growing media/supports of cultivation, based on superabsorbent biodegradable hydrogels, able to produce microgreens with high nutritional profile with low environment impact.
