Title: professor

Association/Company: Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

Biography:
Inna Khozin-Goldberg is a Professor and a PI at the Microalgal Biotechnology Laboratory .Her  research focuses of diffrent aspects of microalgal cell responses to environmental stresses and cultivation conditions, with main interests spanning physiological assessment and characterization of gene functions and biosynthetic pathways involved in the regulation of lipid metabolism in general, and in long-chain PUFA, specifically. I study model and non-model species, focusing on microalgae of biotechnological importance and their applications

Innovazione genetica in algocoltura e possibile miglioramento del bilancio energetico di microalghe per bioenergie

Speech
Unlocking potential of genetic enhancement of microalgae for enhanced oil and fatty acid production

Abstract
Microalgae are a promising, sustainable resource of oil and fatty acids, important for various industrial and nutritional applications. Genetic improvement of microalgae offers an opportunity to increase oil productivity, modify fatty acid composition and enhance yields. In this presentation, I will highlight the importance of genetic modifications, such as mutagenesis and genetic engineering in improving desirable traits of selected microalgae. These approaches enable the development of productive strains with tailored lipid and fatty acid profiles for specific applications such as the production of biofuels, dietary supplements and aquaculture feeds. In addition, strain improvement strategies can address the challenges associated with scalability and resilience to environmental factors, thus promoting the commercial viability of the microalgae-based industry.
